This layout came about from LOAD Day #6 Geography. We were given ideas for the prompt but pretty well had free rein on what we wanted to do with it. So the first thing I did was looked up the definition of Geography, printed it so I could have on hand. Geography ("earth description") is a field of science devoted to the study of the lands, the features, the inhabitants, and the phenomena of Earth. A literal translation would be "to describe or picture or write about the earth". Well then there is a whole lot of things covered by this definition :) Just about anything that takes place on Earth is geography. So my first layout for this prompt, I went with a man-made phenomenon to change the earth a bit. Our trip to the Altoona Railroad Museum we include the trip up to see Horseshoe Curve.
The 2 page layout was created with my Brighter Year Ahead Counterfeit kit. Across the 2 page spread I used the 1 postcard I bought to use for the title. A flatten penny you buy in one of the quarter machines they have at these places and 8 photos.
The left side of the layout holds the largest part of the journaling. Some information I got out the book the we received during our tour, some interesting facts and some of our own take on the curve.
The right side of the layout holds a few pictures of the area up on top of the curve including a Pennsylvania Engine on display. Also 2 pictures of a working train coming around the curve. It's a sight to see if your in that area of Pennsylvania
The postcard
The journaling I got out of the book.
A tidbit about the Irish laborers that carved out the curve. Up on top our personal journaling, just as we were leaving we seen another train coming around the curve.
The train coming around the curve. They have a schedule posted of the trains coming through so you can see it happening
This is posted at the sight, details of the Horseshoe Curve
The grid of pictures that you see up on the observation deck waiting on the train to come by. Very enjoyable day and we had a wonderful time seeing the museums in Altoona, PA.
Love the flow of your double layout!! The pictures and all your details look fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteVery cool place to visit. I love all the pictures and how you've included your own thoughts as well as the historic info from the museum.
ReplyDeleteVery nicely scrapped. I too often have to research the places we've visited to remind me of the facts I learned there and I want to put on a layout. I don't always remember enough of the details once I am home and scrapping.
ReplyDeleteI really like the history and details you record on your pages - that curve is very imipressive. Nice two page layout with lots of pictures!
