Christmas Greeting 2011

Christmas Thank You Card

Hi All,
I'm the designer today over at the Card A Day Blog and the theme this week is Christmas Thank You card. If your from the CADB thank you for joining us today.
Now myself I would never have considered a thank you card until I joined in with CADB and seen as a theme and thought yea why not. So I get the blessing this year of not hosting my family this Christmas but my Sister-In-Law is so I decided to make this card and then send it to her and my brother after the holiday for hosting this year and maybe start another tradition. So here is the card

 This is probably the easiest card I have made yet. Clean and simple and who doesn't need that this time of the year.

Here are the pieces to the card that I made. It is a 5.5" X 5.5" red cardstock base. Doily seem to be the in thing at the moment so this packet of doilys I found at one of the local dollar stores and used that for the background piece. The lettering came from the Storybook cartridge on pg 71 in your handbook. I cut it in 3 layers: shadow in white, the main piece in green and the extra T and Y in a red glitter paper @ 1.25". Glued everything together and pop dotted the lettering to give it a float look off the background. Added gold stickles in each corner to frame it and that was it. Done in an hour from beginning to end. Easy Peasy!

Wow I can't believe we are in the month of December already! Now we are in the thick of the holidays what better way to see it than through the eyes of a child. I'm lucky enough to have 14 grandkids and it's a joy to Christmas through them.

The card I made today came from the Cricut Cartridge A Child's Year. What a great cartridge about all kinds of things going on with kids. If you are making christmas tags this year take a look at this cart to for that it has lots of ideas. 

Now for the card: My card base came from the Heritage paper pack from the paper company, also the Santa and Child were cut from this paper too. my background paper is from DCWV Christmas Combo 180 pack and the corners were punched with the fiskars heritage corner punch (that has 3 different corners). This was a fast and easy card to get put together. I cut the image out @ 4" and also the shadow. Popped it up with 1/16" pop dots, added a present sticker I got off a sticker sheet I got at the local dollar store and red stickles to give it more of a pop. The sentiment is a stamped ribbon piece I got at my local scrap shop and I added red stickles to each of corners. Brought the same background paper and sentiment to the inside of the card to dress that up. This was a fun card that didn't take to long to make.

It's easy to get caught up in all the rushing around that often characterizes Christmas these days. If you want to recapture the innocence and wonder of Christmas, then see the holiday through the eyes and hearts of a child.

Christmas Shopping

Hi all and if you are stopping by from Card A Day Blog welcome. The theme this week at Card A Day Blog is Christmas Shopping!
Now who doesn't enjoy a little shopping around the Christmas holidays. My card today depicts that:

Are you going shopping this week too! I never cared for the hustle and bustle of shopping in Black Friday, but last year there were to many sales not to go out and get a few things (it's the best time of the year to buy all those crafting items that you need for the days ahead).

The card I made today was a fun one, I did the searching for my shopper the past few days and found her at Sliekje's digi Stamps. Isn't she just the cutest thing. I feel like her after a good day shopping at the mall. This is an A2 size card on white card stock from the paper company, all the background papers came from the DCWV "The Christmas Combo 180 Stack", the borders were punched with MS doily lace edge punch, the sentiment was typed up in MS Word and printed out and punched with SU extra-large scallop oval and then trimmed to have a straight edge, added 3 red rhinestones from KaiserCraft. The girl was colored with a variety of markers (really trying to get the hang of this, would like to progress into doing the beautiful work I've seen out there on other blogs). This was a fun project and I know who will be getting this card for her love to shop! Have fun shopping this Black Friday, I'm still deciding what I'm shopping for an Imagine or maybe that new cricut 2 that is out, or maybe I'll get a few new little things and gifts for the family. Christmas Tree Card

Hi all and if you are stopping by from Card A Day Blog welcome. The theme this week at Card A Day Blog is Christmas at Home and this card is for the memories of growing up at home. We didn't do alot of outdoor lights, but inside the house the tree would take center stage and in the front window. Mom would get the tree up (Dad probably helped with this but I never seen) and the lights on the tree and my brothers, my sister and I would help with decorating the tree. That tree would be up from shortly after Thanksgiving till during the New Year's holiday. So this card is in her memory:

This is a clean and simple card that I made in just a couple of hours today. I love making Christmas Cards cause I seem to experiment more in the embossing side of cardmaking. This is how the card came to be:

I had gotten some new embossing
powder at my local scrapbook store called Black Sparkle from Ranger. I like to stamp images and use the embossing powder to give more umph to the stamped image on a card. You can't see the sparkle so well on the pictures here but this stuff adds a bit of sparkle to the black.

I also stamped both the front sentiment and the inside card sentiment with this embossing powder and chalked the image with Stampin Up garden green chalk. It turned out really sharp! The picture doesn't do it justice:

I die cut the stamped tree and the inside sentiment with Spellbinders Classic Scallop Ovals Large set using the largest die. I really like using these dies cause you see exactly where it's going to cut (fussy cut). I also punched out the front sentiment with Stamping Up extra-large scallop oval.

The card was cut out from the heritage paper pack of The Paper Company A2 size and the green diagonal paper is from a DCWV paper pack The Christmas Combo pack that I got last year. The photo on the right is the inside of the card as I brought the same paper to the inside of the card.

All stamps used are from Stampin Up in various collections, the front sentiment was stuck with 1/16" foam dots.The pieces on each side came from some card stock that I was experimenting with last year when I was trying out a new technique. The technique that I was working on was double embossing by dry embossing the cardstock in a cuttlebug folder (Winter Trees) then wet and heat embossed with Ranger's silver tinsel (which is really thick). So I punched out the trees with a Martha Steward 1" starburst punch and they looked like charms and gave a bit of bling to the card. So this card only took a few hours to cut, stamp, emboss, die-cut and put together a very simple card with a nice impact. Christmas Squirrel from Jolly Holidays

Isn't it something how animals share in our joy, even at Christmas time. If you are joining us from Card a Day Blog welcome to my blog. This card started from the squirrel cut off of Jolly Holidays cricut cartridge.

I would like to introduce you to Liquid Applique and how this stuff can give a real nice 3D effect to your card. It's really cool to use on Christmas cards to give an effect resembling snow or the fluff on a hat.

First you want to cut out the parts    
and glue the layers together. The layer cartridges are pretty cool to use because they add cut marks for lining each piece. I use Scotch scrapbooker's liquid glue in case I have to wiggle any of the pieces to fit (dries quick though)(cut out at 3")

Next you want to put on the liquid      applique (mine is from Marvy, you should be able to get it at any scrapbook store). The picture on the left I have added the liquid to the white on the hat. It says to let sit over night, but look at the pic on the right this was heated shortly after applying it. Looks fluffy to me just fine.

Add some stickles to dress it up and it looks great on the front of a card. Takes about an hour to get it put together from all the pieces cut out. Easy-peasy.

Punches: Fiskars lace corner for the sentiment
Adhesive: Scotch Scrapbooker's Glue
Stickles: Xmas Red, Diamond, Paprika
Embossing powder: SU Iridescent Ice with the fluff
Electronic cutter: Cricut Expression
Tools: as we call the basic kit (it all sits out on my craft desk)


I enjoyed making this card today for you, I have quite a few more to make yet (24 to be exact) for the local swap this weekend.
