All about Purple

Wow, when I started the research on the color purple for this post I was surprised at what I found out about it. Hi I'm the designer today over at Card A Day Blog. Purple is one of my favorite colors along with gold it's a great combination but this post is all about purple.

Purple is the color of good judgment. It is the color of people seeking spiritual fulfillment. It is said if you surround yourself with purple you will have peace of mind. Purple is a good color to use in meditation.
Purple has been used to symbolize magic and mystery, as well as royalty. Being the combination of red and blue, the warmest and coolest colors, purple is believed to be the ideal color. Most children love the color purple. Purple is the color most favored by artists. Thursday's color is purple.
No wonder I like purple so much and I'll have to remember to wear purple on Thursdays now. So this is my Monochromatic Card.

My sister loves purple too, so I thought this would be the perfect card for her birthday in August.

These are the materials I used for the card. The sketch is from Book: Scrapbook page: Maps 2 from Becky Fleck. I used all scraps to make the card and it's based on 1/2 sheet of white cardstock. folded in half to make and A2 card. The bottom stripe peice was cut at 3.5" X 4.25" and the top piece was cut at 2" X 4.25". I use a purple ribbon for the border inbetween the papers. Used spellbinders Lacy ovals and Classic Ovals Large for the sentiment and added a flower I had gotten in a swap that was the perfect color for the card. I used G-studio purple chalk ink for my stamping and used both the SU Tenny Tiny Wishes and the bottom inked border came for a fiskars aged to perfection stamp set. Added some bling rhinestones and all that is left is to add a message to the inside, Easy Peasy took roughly an hour to hour and half to make it. That is what I love about using a sketch everything just falls into place.

Through the Eyes of Children

Wow I can't believe we are in the month of December already! Now we are in the thick of the holidays what better way to see it than through the eyes of a child. I'm lucky enough to have 14 grandkids and it's a joy to Christmas through them.

The card I made today came from the Cricut Cartridge A Child's Year. What a great cartridge about all kinds of things going on with kids. If you are making christmas tags this year take a look at this cart to for that it has lots of ideas. 

Now for the card: My card base came from the Heritage paper pack from the paper company, also the Santa and Child were cut from this paper too. my background paper is from DCWV Christmas Combo 180 pack and the corners were punched with the fiskars heritage corner punch (that has 3 different corners). This was a fast and easy card to get put together. I cut the image out @ 4" and also the shadow. Popped it up with 1/16" pop dots, added a present sticker I got off a sticker sheet I got at the local dollar store and red stickles to give it more of a pop. The sentiment is a stamped ribbon piece I got at my local scrap shop and I added red stickles to each of corners. Brought the same background paper and sentiment to the inside of the card to dress that up. This was a fun card that didn't take to long to make.

It's easy to get caught up in all the rushing around that often characterizes Christmas these days. If you want to recapture the innocence and wonder of Christmas, then see the holiday through the eyes and hearts of a child.

Christmas Squirrel from Jolly Holidays

Isn't it something how animals share in our joy, even at Christmas time. If you are joining us from Card a Day Blog welcome to my blog. This card started from the squirrel cut off of Jolly Holidays cricut cartridge.

I would like to introduce you to Liquid Applique and how this stuff can give a real nice 3D effect to your card. It's really cool to use on Christmas cards to give an effect resembling snow or the fluff on a hat.

First you want to cut out the parts    
and glue the layers together. The layer cartridges are pretty cool to use because they add cut marks for lining each piece. I use Scotch scrapbooker's liquid glue in case I have to wiggle any of the pieces to fit (dries quick though)(cut out at 3")

Next you want to put on the liquid      applique (mine is from Marvy, you should be able to get it at any scrapbook store). The picture on the left I have added the liquid to the white on the hat. It says to let sit over night, but look at the pic on the right this was heated shortly after applying it. Looks fluffy to me just fine.

Add some stickles to dress it up and it looks great on the front of a card. Takes about an hour to get it put together from all the pieces cut out. Easy-peasy.

Ink: True Red (Ink it Up)
Pens: White gelly roll pen for stitching
Die cuts: Squirrel from Jolly Holidays
Ribbon: Sheer Red (Jo-Anns)
Trimmer: Cricut and Fiskars
Punches: Fiskars lace corner for the sentiment
Adhesive: Scotch Scrapbooker's Glue
Stickles: Xmas Red, Diamond, Paprika
Embossing powder: SU Iridescent Ice with the fluff
Electronic cutter: Cricut Expression
Tools: as we call the basic kit (it all sits out on my craft desk)


I enjoyed making this card today for you, I have quite a few more to make yet (24 to be exact) for the local swap this weekend.
